This development is located in the historic city center of Muhlhausen between Görmarstrasse and Steinweg which are reborn as a compact, inner-city neighborhood.
For this reason, the planned development is secluded from the main road with a differentiated courtyard. It adapts to the surrounding buildings by taking into account the appropriate heights and roof forms. Similarly, the typical local cityscape and offsets are included in the street escapes and are re-interpreted.
The central headquarters space blends together with the urban area, the heart of the development, and offers its residents the possibility for identification with their neighborhood. The Schwemmnotte, a small stream, crosses the square, dividing the bigger, busier area upstream and an active region and in the quieter, northern zone. The site opens to the All Saints Street.
The center point, located west of the square, turns through various activities. The hall provides various uses of space: all types of exhibitions (art, schools, clubs, exhibitions, etc.), music events (small concerts to closing the School of Music), graduations, Quartiersfesten, urban events, etc. In their variety, they enrich the public life not only of the quarter, but Mühlhausen throughout the region and also nationally. The use of the hall is open to the possibility, indeed it is even desired, for the neighborhood to integrate into the activities.
The manifold-use space offers its residents numerous possibilities of use: chess or play boules, children's games, listening to intimate gatherings, concerts, theater or a children's festival, artists, eg Sculptor, observe in their work or simply watch the activities from the café, sitting on the court and much more. The uses of overlap increase the integration of the square.
The residential block along the All Saints Street absorbs various offsets and blends the relationship to the environment. Both the facade and the eaves are interrupted several times, so that the impression of a structure while maintaining a degree of unity remains.
When leaving the building, the road is clearly defined by the structure. It draws on the geographic Schwemmnote. The Wachsmutweg passes through the superstructure, along the creek, with the buildings on either side alternating and overlapping. The result is an interesting spatial experience on this walk: many styles of construction of buildings on both sides close to the superstructure. The views into the backyards vary from gardens to a gravelled Erschliessungshof.
